Mountain Bike Rental Serre Chevalier — Hire Across the Valley

Serre Chevalier is one of the best mountain biking destinations in the French Alps, with over 300km of marked trails and a dedicated bike park served by gondola. Mountain bike rental shops are spread across the full length of the valley — from Briançon at the eastern end to Monêtier-les-Bains in the west.

About Serre Chevalier for Mountain Biking

The Serre Chevalier valley stretches roughly 12km and rises to 2,800m. The bike park at Chantemerle is the main draw for lift-accessed riding, but the surrounding trail network is equally impressive — long cross-country loops, enduro-style descents, and high-alpine routes that push into the Écrins massif. The season runs from late June to mid-September.

Rental by Village

Each village has its own character and trail access. Choose based on where you're staying and what type of riding you plan to do. For a detailed breakdown, see the full shop location guide.

Serre Chevalier Bike Park

The Serre Chevalier bike park is accessed by the Prorel–Serre Ratier gondola from Chantemerle. It covers the full mountain from 2,483m down to 1,350m. A separate bike park day pass is required on top of your rental. The park is open daily from late June to mid-August, and weekends only in early June and late September.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Serre Chevalier good for mountain biking?

Yes — it is one of the best MTB destinations in the French Alps. The valley has over 300km of marked trails ranging from gentle cross-country routes to demanding enduro descents and a well-developed bike park with gondola access. The combination of high altitude, varied terrain, and reliable summer weather makes it a destination in its own right.

When is the MTB season in Serre Chevalier?

The main season runs from late June to mid-September. The bike park typically opens fully in late June and the trail network is in best condition through July and August. June and September offer quieter trails, better availability at rental shops, and cooler temperatures for climbing.

Do I need a bike park pass in addition to renting a bike?

Yes. The gondola and bike park access requires a separate day pass, which is not included in the rental price. Passes are sold at the gondola base in Chantemerle. The bike rental shop can advise on current prices.

Where is the best place to rent a bike in Serre Chevalier?

It depends on your riding plan. For the bike park, rent in Chantemerle — you can ride to the gondola from the shop. For cross-country or multi-day touring, Villeneuve or Briançon give good access to the wider trail network and tend to have more stock variety.
